Obituary: Allen Richard Wilson

A memorial service for Allen Richard Wilson, 63, a Carson City resident for the past 30 years, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church Family Life Center, corner of Nevada and Musser streets.

Mr. Wilson died March 3, 2003, at his home. He was born Aug. 22, 1939, in Ogden, Utah, to Elliott (Ed) Alford and Clara Victoria Wilson.

He graduated from Yerington High School in 1957, where he was student body president and co-captain of the football team.

After working for the Nevada State Highway Department for a year, he attended the University of Nevada. He majored in electrical engineering and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, receiving a bachelor's degree in 1963 and a master's in electrical engineering in 1966.

He married Carol Lynn Best of Yerington on Sept. 5, 1959.

Mr. Wilson worked as a test engineer with Edgerton Germershausen and Greer in Las Vegas then transferred to San Ramon, Calif. He was chief engineer with Universal Engineered Systems in San Ramon from 1969 to 1972.

In Dec. 26, 1972, Allen and his father-in-law, Robert Best, founded Sierra Control Systems Inc. in Carson City. Mr. Wilson moved to Carson City in September 1973 to develop the company, which mainly services the municipal water industry through the design, manufacture and installation of electronic water-monitoring and control systems.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carson City, where he served as an elder and was chairman of the buildings and grounds, stewardship and administrative committees of the church. He was on the church's pastor nominating committee. He was active in the community, serving for many years as recording secretary for the Carson City Kiwanis Club and coaching Little League baseball.

Among his survivors are his wife, Carol; sons and daughters-in-law Dennis and Jamie Wilson of Sparks and Mike and Annette Schlageter Wilson of North Potomac, Md.; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Robin Joyce of Las Vegas; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Gary Soule of Reno; brother and sister-in-law, James and Margaret Wilson of Johnson City, Tenn.; and grandchildren Sarah, Kathryn, Elle, Jillian, Miles, Sydney, Summer and Kimberly.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 306 W. Musser St., Carson City NV 89703.
