Mine hearing delayed

A public hearing on Meridian Gold's proposed gold mine near the city of Esquel in Argentina has been postponed.

The hearing scheduled for March 29 will be delayed until a study of mining impacts on water quality is completed.

The company expects the study to be published in April, and the hearing will take place at least 30 days after it's completed.

The mine proposed by the Reno-based mining company has drawn opposition from groups who say it may polluted groundwater.

Meridian officials have said the project meets or exceeds environmental standards.
