120 YEARS AGO

From "In Brief": Baseball has broken out all over town, and the glaziers are getting rich. Jack Todman has gone to Hawthorne to take charge of Jack Campbell's new paper. John Cheney's wife was very low last night, and it is feared she cannot survive her present sickness.

100 YEARS AGO

Alex Twaddle, one of the most prosperous farmers of Washoe Valley, committed suicide in Reno. His little son had been under care of a physician for months, and on top of this a lawsuit came along. His brother had hidden the pistol, but apparently temporary insanity resulted in Twaddle finding it. A careful watch had been maintained.

70 YEARS AGO

By a vote of 26-to-8, the Assembly gave its final approval to the bill providing for a convention to repeal the Prohibition amendment. Ernest Brown of Washoe said "interests," and not the people, would decide the liquor question under the new plan.

50 YEARS AGO

Monday, Carson (Host) Lions had as guests 24 members of the high school basketball squad and their coach, Morris Burley. The speaker was Jake Lawlor, University of Nevada basketball coach. R.E. Walker said Virginia Gregory would speak for the Lions at the speech contest.

20 YEARS AGO

The second annual Comstock County Jamboree will be at the Carson City Community Center gym, with the band "Reunion" providing entertainment. The country dinner is ham and beans.

10 YEARS AGO

Secretary of State Cheryl Lau discusses citizen participation during the Legislative session before the Nevada Association of Executives luncheon Monday at the Carson Nugget. She presents her views on election reform, investor fraud, governmental reorganization, women's issues and the 1993 Legislature.
