Warrant issued for dog-dragging lady

A warrant was issued Thursday for a Carson City woman who failed to appear for a hearing in Justice Court in a dog-dragging case.

Karen Daigle-Singh, 49, was expected to plead guilty to drunken driving and animal cruelty.

She was arrested March 30 after a passerby allegedly saw her driving down Division Street with a dog tied to the bumper of her car.

According to her attorney, Paul Giese of the state's Public Defenders Office, Singh was living in her car with her two Jack Russell terriers when she drove off, forgetting the male-- Crackerjack -- was tied to the bumper.

Giese told Justice of the Peace Robey Willis he hadn't talked to his client since the date for the plea agreement hearing was set.

"Well, since she chose not to grace us with her presence today, " Willis said, "I'm making a cash-only bail of $10,000 due to the nature of and severity of the case."

Willis said Annie's Bail Bonds has six months to locate Singh or risk losing the $4,500 it posted for her $5,000 bond.

"There'll be lots of people looking for her," Willis said.

"We'd like to get her back in custody as soon as possible," said a representative of Annie's Bail Bonds who asked to not be named.

"We're looking for help from the community. If anyone has information on (Singh's) whereabouts, we'd like them to call Annie's at 883-2664. There's a small reward."

The representative said one of Singh's former husbands posted the bail and is liable to the bondsman for $10,000 if Singh isn't apprehended before the bail revocation hearing in six months.

Crackerjack was treated for road rash on his feet and side. He is now in the custody of another of Singh's former husbands. She still maintains custody of the female Jack Russell terrier.
