Obituary: George Eastland

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church for George C. Eastland, 95, a Carson City resident for 31 years. A rosary will be said 6 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley. Visitation will be noon to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Eastland died Nov. 13, 2003.

He was born June 11, 1908, in Larimore, N.D., to Fredrik and Hannah Eastland. He married Ann Zupo in 1955 in San Francisco. She preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 1995.

Mr. Eastland moved to Carson City from San Francisco.

He was a correctional officer at San Quentin Penitentiary. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the BPOE in Carson City, the San Francisco Masonic Lodge, San Francisco Dad's Club and St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Mr. Eastland is survived by his daughter and her husband, Faye and Gilbert Eisenberg of San Francisco; stepdaughter and husband, Lillian and Lindley Manning of Reno; stepson George Bloise of Smith Valley; sister and husband, Merle and Jim Decker of Santa Rosa, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Burial will be at Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery in Carson City. Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
