Judicial Ethics head Bartlett has new term

Phillip Bartlett of Reno has been named to a third two-year term as chairman of the Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics and Election Practices.

Bartlett is a partner in Burton, Bartlett and Glogovac of Reno and a 1974 graduate of the Santa Clara University Law School.

In addition, the Judicial Commission named Las Vegas lawyer Kathleen Paustian as vice chairwoman of the standing committee.

Paustian is a 1987 graduate of the University of Florida College of Law and has served on the committee since 2001. She is a lawyer with the firm of Sullivan, Hill, Lewin, Rez and Engel.

In addition, Reno lawyer Christine Munro was named to the standing committee. She is a 1993 graduate of Oklahoma City School of Law and a former Nevada deputy attorney general. She practices in Reno.

The committee was created to handle complaints involving judges accused of unethical or improper conduct or violations of election practices. It also provides advisory opinions to judges who request them. It consists of 28 members, including 12 lawyers appointed by the bar and 12 non-attorneys appointed by the governor as well as four judges appointed by the Supreme Court.

Since it began work in 1998, the committee has issued 30 advisory opinions and adjudicated 21 campaign-related disputes.
