Adele Joan Abowd

A celebration of life for Adele Joan Abowd, 70, a 24-year resident of Carson City and four-year resident of Reno, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Mrs. Abowd died Aug. 25, 2004, at Washoe Medical Center. She was born May 16, 1934, in Oakland, Calif., to Hartley III and Adele Grauberger Postlethwaite.

She attended Mission High School in San Francisco.

She married Paul Leroy Abowd on Sept. 26, 1950, in Yuma, Ariz.

Mrs. Abowd was a restaurateur. In 1991, she received a proclamation by Gov. Bob Miller to honor her as a remarkable humanitarian. In 2001, she was named Restaurateur of the Year and in 2002, the Nevada Legislature honored Paul and Adele Abowd with a Senate Bill for their contributions to the Nevada restaurant industry

Among her survivors are her husband; son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Karen Abowd; daughter, Cyrina Abowd; daughter and son-in-law, Colette and Scott Burau and son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Wendy Abowd; brother, Hart Postlethwaite IV; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nine nephews.

Entombment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum in Reno.
