The NDOT question and locking your love

So are those islands in front of the Pershing County Courthouse part of the roadway, and does the Nevada Department of Transportation need to approve any projects on the islands? That's a question that's temporarily stymied chamber of commerce members in their efforts to recreate an ancient Chinese tradition in downtown Lovelock.

In China's Yellow Mountains, couples attach a lock to a stretch of chain, then toss the key far away.

Lovelock figures to cash in on its name by providing a similar opportunity to visitors.

But first chamber members need to settle whether they can build a gazebo with attached chains in front of the county's unusual round courthouse, says Kirstin Hertz, operations manager of the Pershing County Chamber of Commerce.

"We're hoping to hit it hard after the holidays," she says.

If all goes well a love-locker will be ready by spring.
