Calvin Sly

Thirty-six year Dayton resident Calvin Sly, 78, died Feb. 11, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital.

Born April 6, 1925, to Lewis and Alice Upton Sly in Antioch, Calif., he was a security guard at the Ormsby House for the first 15 years it was open.

Mr. Sly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War and helped establish the Marine cold weather training center in Pickel Meadow.

He came to Dayton from Alameda, Calif. He enjoyed fishing and camping.

Mr. Sly was preceded in death by a twin brother Charles and sister Marion Jones.

Among his survivors are his wife Shirley of Dayton; daughter Julie Hydro of Dayton; sister June Pointes of Chico, Calif.; and grandchildren Amanda and David Hydro of Dayton.

Cremation is at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
