Kathy Garcia,Washoe County comptroller, was selected as the 2003 outstanding CPA in government by the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Garcia was nominated for her work in the early implementation of GASB 34, a new government accounting system, for the county.
She also helped introduce the system across the United States.
Garcia graduated cum laude from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1976, and worked for private firms until she began with Washoe County in 1981.
She was named comptroller in 1994 after working as a senior accountant and chief deputy comptroller.
