Deer hunting tags still valid in the Waterfall Fire area

According to Patty Wagoner of the Nevada Department of Wildlife, those deer hunters who drew 2004 hunting tags for Nevada Big Game Management Area Nos. 194 and 196, west of Carson City, will not be able to return those tags due to the Waterfall Fire.

Those management areas, which are on the west side of Carson City, extend from U.S. 50 on the south to the Mt. Rose Highway on the north and to Lake Tahoe on the west.

The 2004 seasons and tag numbers are:

Archery (Aug. 14 to Sept. 10): 18 resident and 2 non-resident.

Black Power (Sept. 11 to Sept. 26): 2 resident and 2 non-resident.

Any Legal Weapon (Oct. 30 to Nov. 28): 41 resident and 3 non-resident.

Junior: A total of 22 tags for the three seasons listed above.

In addition, there are 13 antlerless tags for Area Nos. 194 and 196.
