Ex-Carson pastor to preach at National Cathedral

The Rev. Charles Durante, former associate pastor with St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community in Carson City, will be featured as guest preacher at Nevada State Day July 18 at the landmark Washington, D.C., National Cathedral.

Durante is now pastor of Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Community in Reno.

"I feel very honored to be asked to do this,"Durante said, who is a native Nevadan, from Reno.

Durante served with St. Teresa's from 1995-1999.

Nevada visitors and natives in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area will play key roles in the cathedrals' 11 a.m. service.

The Right Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori of Las Vegas, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada, will serve as guest celebrant.

As part of its national ministry, Washington National Cathedral offers prayers for the leaders of each state annually. The cathedral recognizes each state with a major observance every four years.
