Melvin L. Beauchamp

Melvin L. Beauchamp, 74, a Carson City resident for the past 42 years, died June 20, 2004, at home. No services will be held.

Mr. Beauchamp was born Oct. 20, 1929, in Roseville, Calif.

He attended the University of San Francisco and received his juris doctorate from Hastings School of Law. He was licensed to practice law in California and Nevada.

He was in private practice then worked for the Nevada Attorney General's office for 24 years under attorneys general Harvey Dickerson, Robert List, Richard Bryan and Brian McKay as a deputy attorney general. He became chief counsel for the Nevada Department of Transportation, retiring in 1987.

He enjoyed hunting with his son and was passionate about gunsmithing, sailing and snow skiing.

Among his survivors are his companion of 28 years, Julie Groso of Carson City; son, Bruce of Carson City; grandsons Brent of Arizona, Larry Groso of Elko and Greg Groso of Reno; and granddaughter, Tanya Groso of Reno.

Cremation is under the direction of Capitol City Cremation.
