A Carson City man waived his preliminary hearing Thursday and is expected to plead guilty to the February robbery of a north Carson City convenience store.
Jorge Perez, 28, was set to appear in Carson City Justice Court for a hearing to determine if there was enough evidence to go forward on a charge of robbery with a deadly weapon.
Instead, he waived the hearing and is expected to plead guilty to felony robbery in District Court in about three weeks, said Deputy District Attorney Chris Hicks.
According to police reports, Perez robbed the 7-Eleven, 3701 N. Carson St., about 9:30 p.m. Feb. 26.
The clerk told police the robber played the slot machines for a short time before other customers came into the store and she was distracted.
Perez is accused of holding a knife against the clerk's back and demanding money.
Hicks said the entire robbery was captured on store surveillance cameras.
A flyer with a photograph from the video tape was sent to area law-enforcement agencies where a parole officer recognized Perez as the man he monitored on a federal weapons charge.
Perez also has a felony conviction for burglary in Washoe County.
Hicks said he was recently released from federal prison on a charge of ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
Perez faces two to 16 years in prison.
"Considering his history he will probably get a lengthy sentence," Hicks said.
