• Began June 25, 1950, when North Korea attacked South Korea

• It was said to be part of the "Cold War" between the U.S. and Russia. President Harry Truman feared Communism would spread after China turned in 1949.

• More than 54,240 men and women were killed. 20,600 deaths were listed as accidental fatalities

- 8,916 are still missing in action or lost/buried at sea

- More than 103,000 were wounded

- More than 3,740 were captured/POW

• The war cost $20 billion

• The war came to an end July 27, 1954
