Fatal Saturday accident caused by weather

The weather is being blamed for the death of a Carson City man killed near the intersection of Highway 395 and Stephanie Way in Minden.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reported that 52-year-old Morgan Petersen was traveling south on Highway 395 when he lost control of his Ford pickup on the icy road and struck the cement railing of Cradlebaugh Bridge. After the initial impact, the pickup crossed both travel lanes, entered into the center median and overturned.

Peterson was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the passenger-side window, sustaining a major head injury. He was taken from the scene by ambulance and pronounced dead a short time later.

The NHP said alcohol may have been a contributing factor, said Trooper Todd Hartline. The investigation continues.

The NHP asks motorists to reduce their speed during inclement weather and allow for a greater stopping distance.
