Bands and the big parade highlight Nevada Day, starting Friday

by Kim Riggs

The Nevada Day parade is not to be missed Saturday. However, there is more than just the parade to keep you entertained.

The Carson High Marching Band on Friday will host a contest to raise money for equipment and other needed items.

If you enjoy all types of music, Richard Doede and the Capital City Community Band will present the 26th annual Nevada Day Concert at the Railroad Museum Saturday. The free concert will feature a variety of music from show tunes to rousing marches.

"We always present a big variety of music so we can try to please almost everyone," said Doede, founder and director of the band.

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada hosts safe trick or treating Friday and Saturday. The museum will have lots of treats, face painting, pumpkin painting and fortune-telling fun in a safe atmosphere. If you are a teen or an adult and would like to volunteer in a non-scary costume, call Frieda at 884-2226 or 882-5458.

Want to make your own scarecrow and you missed out at the Children's Museum last week? Come to Sprint Cellular Saturday to make a scarecrow and enjoy some Roundtable pizza. Proceeds benefit each elementary school in Carson City. A big thank to Benson Feed for donating the straw for the scarecrows.

Carson City Rotary Club is presenting an Election Night Party. Come and watch the results with local candidates at the Carson Nugget. It doesn't matter if you're a Republican or Democrat; the only thing that really matters is that you vote.

Start clipping Campbell soup labels and General Mills educational box tops because Raley's is going to help schools raise educational funds to purchase needed items.
