A 25-acre brushfire near Geiger Grade was controlled Monday afternoon.
According to Helen Frazier, intelligence officer with the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center, the fire, which broke out about 5 p.m. Sunday at Toll Road and Geiger Grade south of Reno, burned on Bureau of Land Management property.
"They were pretty lucky. The fire burned up to a road, held pretty tight at the road, and let them get in and get it out," said Storey County Fire Chief Gary Hames, who worked the fire as part of a strike team of engines at the bottom of the grade.
It was reportedly sparked by an off-road vehicle in the area.
By midnight, crews from Washoe and Storey counties, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and the Nevada Division of Forestry were able to contain the blaze burning in sagebrush and grass.
Storey County sent four brush engines and three water tenders.
Monday two engines and a water tender were mopping up hotspots, patrolling and monitoring the fire.
No structures were threatened.
