Charles Sloan

A graveside service for Charles Sloan, 87, a Carson City resident for the past 34 years, will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Eastside Memorial Cemetery in Minden.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Sloan died Aug. 23, 2005, in Carson City. He was born Jan. 2, 1918, in Wayland, Ohio, to Merrick P. and Nancy Sloan.

He married Laurie M. Sloan in 1955 in Carson City.

Mr. Sloan was an auditor for the Nevada Motor Vehicle Department. He was a member of the Eagles and enjoyed fishing, hunting, roller-skating and bowling.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his brother Merrick in 1998.

Among his survivors are his wife of 50 years of Carson City; son, John D. Kent of Reno; daughter, Ruth A. Tucker of Carson City; sisters Treasure Mansoff of Phoenix, Arlene Milnes of Canadian, Okla., Laura Gommer of Florida and Ruth Rezabek of Garrettsville, Ohio; brothers Jimmy of Canadian, Okla., and George of Garrettsville, Ohio; and grandchildren Charlie and Austin Tucker, Myna Kent and Jeremy Newcomb.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, 1155 W. Fourth St., Suite 224, Reno, NV 89503. Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
