Dorothy May McMullen

A memorial service for Dorothy May McMullen, 83, a Battle Mountain resident for the past 59 years, will be at 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Methodist Church in Battle Mountain. A celebration of her life will be at the Hide-A-Way immediately after the service.

Mrs. McMullen died Aug. 24, 2005, at the Hearthstone, a long-term care facility in Sparks. She was born March 1, 1922, in Manassa, Colo.

Mrs. McMullen worked as a waitress at the Nevada Hotel. She was also a bank clerk and a secretary for the justice of the peace of Lander County and for the Lander County Treasurer's Office.

She loved to garden. She spent time volunteering for Lifeline and was active in the Lander County Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Nathan Sellers, in 1958; second husband, Sam McMullen, in 1998; and son, Edward Sellers in 2001.

Among her survivors are her daughters Georgia Lauritzen of Elizabeth, Colo., and Sondra McMullen of Dayton; grandson Nathan Lauritzen and granddaughter Lisa Legarza, both of Battle Mountain; granddaughter Lili Williams of Lone Tree, Colo.; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lander County Historical Society, Box 663; or Battle Mountain Lifeline, Box 342, both of Battle Mountain, NV 89820.

Cremation will be at Mountain View Mortuary.

Burns Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
