A public meeting today will give residents the opportunity to learn more about the extension of the Carson City Freeway from Highway 50 East to Fairview Drive, and the widening of Fairview Drive.
This first part of Phase 2 includes: completion of the interchange at Highway 50 East, a partial interchange at Fairview Drive, a grade separated crossing at Fifth Street, on-site and off-site drainage, landscape treatments and the extension of the Linear Ditch Park multi-use path.
Under a separate contract, Fairview Drive will be widened to four lanes from the freeway interchange west to South Carson Street. This project will include: pavement reconstruction, new curb and gutter, sidewalk, drainage improvements, traffic signal modifications, lighting and landscaping.
Widening of Fairview Drive will address growing traffic needs in the area.
Phase 1 is scheduled to be completed by April.
"But we feel there's a very good possibility it will open before then," said Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Magruder.
Today's meeting will be from 4-7 p.m., at Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Road.
"This is a really good time for people to come forward and look at the plans. If there's a concern, this is their time to let their voice be heard. We'll also answer questions people may have," Magruder said. "Everyone's curious about what's going on with the next phase."
Members of the public can submit their comments in writing on a comment sheet provided, or in person to a public stenographer who will be available.
In addition to any comments received at the meeting, written comments will also be accepted until 5 p.m. Jan. 6.
The entire nine-mile freeway from Lakeview Hill to its interchange with Highway 50 at the base of Spooner Summit is expected to be completed by 2010.
