Former Carson City Sheriff Robert Humphrey was found dead Wednesday afternoon at his home in Paradise Valley, about 15 miles outside Winnemucca. He was 80 years old

Robert "Bob" Humphrey, 80, a 29-year Paradise Valley resident died Dec. 14, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Potter Valley, Calif., to Fred L. and Glenna M. Humphrey.

Mr. Humphrey was a graduate of the Reno High School class of 1943. He attended Lassen College and graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1961.

Mr. Humphrey is a veteran of World War II serving from 1943-47 and the Korean War serving from 1951-55 as a pilot in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Humphrey was a law enforcement officer for 27 years. He retired in 1975 as sheriff of Carson City.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth R. "Betty," on April 23, 1996.

Among his survivors are his son Robert J. of Sacramento, stepson Richard Boivie of Las Vegas; daughter Nicole Bowers of Saldotna, Alaska; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

No services will be held at his request.

Albertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
