Carson City

Land-use designations up for discussion tonight

The Carson City Planning Commission will meet today at 3:30 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room, Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Regular items will be discussed at 3:30 p.m. with master plan amendment items at 7 p.m.

Included on tonight's agenda are land-use designations for properties adjacent to Schulz Ranch in South Carson City, other items concern:

- vacant property on the south side of Highway 50, east of Drako Way

- 4443 Highway 50 E.

- 7777 Highway 50 E.

- 4390 Highway 50 E.

- 644 Hot Springs Road

- 470 W. Patrick St.

A discussion on land-use designations for Buzzy's Ranch in east Carson City is scheduled for Jan. 25.

Ring in the year with family dance

Dance the old year away and ring in the new year from 8 p.m. to after midnight Dec. 31 as Pioneer Family Dance presents a New Year's Eve Dance in the ballroom at the Brewery Arts Center.

A dessert/finger food potluck will be at 10 p.m. and champagne or sparkling cider will be provided. Baby-sitting is available by the Girl Scouts for $6 per child.

Douglas County

Democrats meeting early next year

The Douglas County Democratic Central Committee will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Overland Restaurant, 1451 N. Main St., Gardnerville.

The Jan. 28 fundraising dinner will be discussed along with plans for the 2006 elections. All Douglas County Democrats are urged to attend.

Stagecoach

Sign up by Tuesday for breakfast ride

A breakfast ride/drive will be from 9-10 a.m. Jan. 1 at 11225 Silver Lane, Stagecoach. RSVP to Margy Hamilton, 629-0807 no later than Dec. 27. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 children ages 9-12 and free for children 7 and under.

This will be a 3- to 31Ú2- hour ride/drive. Bring a can of yams as a ride fee (to be used for next year's Thanksgiving baskets). This is for members only.

Applications will be available the day of the ride/drive.

Reno

Chamber music on tap in Reno

The Reno Chamber Orchestra will present the second annual Nevada Chamber Music Festival, featuring world-renowned musicians performing the masterworks of the chamber music literature, Dec. 28-31.

The eight concerts will be presented at South Reno Baptist Church on South McCarran Boulevard in Reno and at Nightingale Concert Hall on the University of Nevada Reno campus.

Tickets are $40 for evening performances and $15 for afternoon performances, with discounts available for seniors and students.

There is also a discount of over 20 percent when festival passes for the entire eight-concert series are purchased. Tickets are available through the Chamber Orchestra office at (775) 348-9413.

Among the festival's concerts are a Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. performance acknowledging Mozart's 250th birthday, a noontime family concert that same day at 12 noon, an all-Bach concert on Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. and a New Year's Eve celebration starting at 7 p.m.
