Welcome to 2006. I have some great entertainment news coming up this month. I also want to suggest some upcoming sporting events to mark on the calendar.
First, if you received a copy of the Nevada Appeal on Dec. 23, there was a copy of "Westwind" enclosed, which contains all the happening at Western Nevada Community College.
The one that caught my eye was "Are you ready for some BASEBALL?"
Go online and check out the Wildcats baseball team schedule, which begins Feb. 24. I had the best time several games last year watching Jesse Rasner play.
The Wildcats are also looking for donations to finish the stadium.
WNCC also has a rodeo team and women's soccer team, which I'll also be watching once Carson High School senior Alli Otto hits the soccer field. Congratulations to Alli for signing with the Wildcats.
We have some great local talent, including Matt Williams, Charley Kerfeld, Donovan Osborne, Darrell Rasner and recently drafted to the Texas Rangers, Jake Rasner. I can guarantee there are so many more talented athletes on there way up, so if you want to help develop our local athletic program start right here.

Everyone knows it's raining and the kids are bored. For that matter, so am I. Last week, my son Kyle called from Reno and asked if I want to go watch a basketball game. I went to the annual Capital Classic Basketball tournament sponsored by the Carson City Lions Club, and we had so much fun cheering the Carson High basketball team against Reed High School.
That got me thinking that people always say there is nothing to do around here. I can tell you that with Kyle in college, it was more fun to watch the boys not worrying about winning or losing (sorry, Bruce and Carlos) and cheering Adam Houghton as he took that three-point shot and watching Jeremiah Teeter steal a ball.
This is exciting indoor fun. Bring the children, they'll have a great time also. Come and support our local team and keep warm while doing it. Seniors citizens get in free.

The Carson Performing Arts (Carson High School) presents "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller.
Who doesn't enjoy the theater and a great adaptation of a true event, a real witch hunt. It sounds like a great show.
