Sparks Chamber of Commerce executive director Len Stevens scored a coup when he landed basketball television commentator Bill Walton as guest speaker for the Sixth Annual Sparks Business Forum in October.
Stevens said that for this year's forum, the chamber wanted to encompass a theme that celebrated the recent success of the men's basketball team at the University of Nevada,Reno.
That meant finding a guest speaker who is well known on the basketball landscape who also had a dynamic personality.
For Stevens,Walton was a logical choice.
While Walton earned stardom in the college and professional basketball arena, he is now most recognizable for his work as an analyst for the National Basketball Association's ESPN television broadcasts.He also is a successful businessman.
Walton is scheduled to make a presentation along with UNR men's basketball coach Mark Fox during a luncheon at this year's forum.
The Sparks Business Forum is slated for Oct.
12 at John's Ascuaga's Nugget.
