Willie Ray 'Doc' Veazey

Willie Ray "Doc" Veazey, 82, a Dayton resident for 53 years, died Oct. 23, 2005, in Dayton. He was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Vinton, La., to Agenore and Ada Veazey.

Before moving to Dayton, he lived in Hackberry, La.

Mr. Veazey was captain of a tugboat in Hackberry.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received a purple heart, American theater service medal, European African Middle Eastern service medal and WWII victory medal.

He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by brother A.J. "Cake" Veazey and sister Ethel Burch.

Among his survivors are his children Prefecto Veazey of Dayton, Sheena Veazey of Baker, Mont., and Donna Veazey and Charles Veazey, both of Louisiana; sisters Nita Veazey and Wanda Arnold, both of Sulphur, La.; seven grandchildren and nephew Francis "Shorty" Lyons.

Cremation will be at Capitol City Cremation.
