Bargains available at C-TH auxiliary gift shop

Early Christmas shoppers and bargain hunters can find a variety of items during the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Auxiliary's ongoing 50 percent-off sale at its gift shop.

The shop is in the hospital and is open from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday.

The sale-priced items are located in the Yard Sale Corner of the gift shop. All the merchandise is new but is being sold at the reduced prices to make room for seasonal and holiday items such as Halloween.

Foundation's reception honors kids with cancer

In recognition of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Angel Kiss Foundation will hold a reception honoring Nevada children and their families at the Nevada State Library & Archives from 4:30-6:30 p.m. today.

The Angel Kiss Foundation is a local nonprofit organization that strives to alleviate stressful concerns of families battling this disease. There is no pediatric oncology treatment center in Northern Nevada. Children and their families have to travel out of state for treatment. The foundation provides financial assistance to families including: medical expenses, insurance deductibles, uncovered procedures, household living expenses, mortgage payments, rent, food, utilities, travel expenses related to treatment and any additional expenses the family needs assistance with during treatment. Make appointment now for mammogram

The Mammovan will be visiting rural Nevada through Sept. 30 offering mammograms to geographically isolated and uninsured women.

Mammograms will be available by appointment for women who are age- and income-eligible at no charge.

The mammovan will be open from 7:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at these places:

• Monday, Lyon County Complex, 555 E. Main St., Fernley

• Tuesday, Scolari's Parking Lot, 176 W. Goldfield Ave., Yerington

• Wednesday, Topaz Lodge, 1979 Highway 395, Topaz Lake

• Sept. 29, FISH, 138 E. Long St.

• Sept. 30, 2nd Place Thrift Store, 10128 Highway 50 E., Mound House.

Lake Tahoe

Burns planned for Lake Tahoe state parks

To maintain forest health, the California State Parks Resource Unit will conduct prescribed burns in Sugar Pine Point State Park and D.L. Bliss State Park.

Burns are scheduled through November, weather and other conditions permitting.
