KAME-TV signs on with new network

KAME TV, Reno's Channel 21, in September will become a network affiliate of CW, a partnership between CBS and Warner Brothers that will operate MyNetworkTV.

Networks UPN (United Paramount Network) and WB (Warner Brothers) are both going out of business to clear the field for the new network, says Marty Ozer, general manager at KAME. The station currently is affiliated with UPN, owned by CBS.

Ozer said KAME affiliated with CW because it offers a business model that allows KAME more local programming leeway and available advertising spots.

MyNetworkTV will provide 10 hours of programming a week, from 8-10 p.m. Monday through Friday.

KAME purchases the lion's share of its programming from syndicators. The syndicated material will run in the 22 hours of the day that isn't filled by the new network, says Ozer.

The MyNetworkTV programming will include the 65-episode drama "Secrets," about two Mafia brothers, and "Desire," about the fashion industry.

The prime-time programming will target the profitable 18-34 age group, officials of Warner and CBS said.
