Syncon's spiff: A bike with a new house

When Syncon Homes' introduced its European-inspired La Costa Monte Vista community in Minden, with its narrow streets and sheltered courtyards, it decided to carry the theme right through to purchase.

It's giving a bicycle to each buyer.

Because many Europeans use bicycles to get around in their communities, the developers imagined home buyers in the Syncon community would want to do the same especially in light of escalating gas prices, says Carol Kiel, director of sales and marketing.

"We did it with a desire to set the tone for the community. This way people won't have to take the gas guzzler out just to go to the village," Kiel says.

The developers also built bicycle racks in each garage.

"We envision residents riding past neighbors and waving as they make their way to nearby Minden Village," Kiel says.

The bicycles were provided in cooperation with Mother Lode Bicycles in Sparks.
