Kohl's eyes location in northwest Reno

Reno officials have received an application for a special-use permit that would allow Kohl's to open a department store in a 94,385-square-foot space at McCarran Boulevard and Mae Ann Avenue.

The location was home to a ShopKo store until it was closed early this year.

Kohl's needs a city permit because the building has stood vacant for more than six months and because the building doesn't meet current standards for large stores.

Executives of Kohl's and Retail West, the California owner of the building, didn't return phone calls for comment on the application last week.
