Able Electropolishing begins operation at its new facility

Able Electropolishing Co. Inc. has launched manufacturing operations in a 16,000-square-foot facility at Tahoe Reno Industrial Center east of Sparks.

The plant is expected to employ about 50 people in a three-shift operation, said David Pokvitis, a co-owner of the company who oversees sales and marketing.

This is the second location for Able Electropolishing, a 54-year-old company based at Chicago.

Pokvitis said the company needs a West Coast location to provide faster deliveries to customers in the region, and the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center plant can deliver products to them as much as five days faster than the Chicago facility.

The Reno-area plant serves an area ranging from Seattle to San Diego and from Salt Lake City to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Able Electropolishing Co. uses a technology that is a reverse of traditional metal plating systems. It relies on a combination of electrical current and chemical baths to remove flaws from a metal part, creating a clean and bright surface.

Customers range from the automotive and aerospace industries to medical and semiconductor firms, Pokvitis said.
