Miles Construction ready to begin Minden church project

Construction will begin this month on a community hall to serve a Douglas County church.

General contactor Miles Construction of Carson City will begin site work at the end of the month and will erect a pre-fabricated metal building supplied by Nucor Building Systems of Charlotte, N.C. Scott Garrison of Miles Construction says cost led to the decision to use a pre-fabricated structure.

The pre-fab building is designed with insulated metal panels that include an embossed stone finish on the interior. Exterior construction will be conventional stucco and stone. The hall occupancy is approximately 835 parishioners. The building will include office space for pastor James Setelik, as well as classrooms with dedicated computer areas.

Architects Plus of Reno designed the building, which sits on 7.56 acres at 3606 North Sunridge Drive. Construction is expected to be completed in 2009.

The new Corpus Christi Catholic Church community hall will be used for worship services and community functions, but church officials eventually hope to replace the 15,000-square-foot building with a larger church facility and turn the new building into a gymnasium.

"It's a fairly good site, and we don't anticipate any challenges," Garrison says. "I think it will be pretty smooth sailing."
