Aspen wins two jobs in Truckee area

Aspen Developers Corp. of Reno won two contracts for improvements in the Truckee area, said Joe Serpa, director of operations.

The company will install more than 4,000 feet of high-pressure water line and construct a pump station for fire protection in the Northstar Community Services District at a cost of almost $1.9 million, Serpa said.

Serpa foresees two main challenges to completing the task: Keeping traffic flowing on Big Springs Drive and into Northstar Village during construction, and lengthy lead times on delivery of the pump system from the manufacturer.

"There is a 22-week lead time for those items, and that puts us right up close to the deadline for the job," he says.

Aspen Developers also will resurface 24,000 square feet of parking lot at Donner Trails Elementary School in Kingvale at a cost of $125,000. Existing parking lot material will be grounded and recycled into base grade for the new surface, a practice Serpa says more and more engineers are leaning toward.

"Nothing gets hauled in except new asphalt," he says. "Especially now with fuel costs to haul that old stuff out and haul new stuff in the cost is getting astronomical."
