Work starts on park

Q&D Construction of Sparks began work last week on the three-acre Somersett East Park in northwest Reno. Hansen Landscape Architects of Sparks designed the project for Somersett Development Co.

Pro Clean gets ballpark work

Pro Clean Maintenance Inc., of Reno has won a contract from the Reno Silver Sox to maintain Peccole Park.

Balance launches new title

Balance Multi-Media of Reno has launched Music Art Culture (MAC) magazine, which will cover music, art and culture in the Reno-Tahoe area.

The quarterly magazine's first edition will be distributed in July. It's edited by Megan Davidson, who also oversees Washoe Family, another magazine published by Balance Multi-Media.

Estate planning group forms

More than 20 people attended the initial meeting of the Estate Planning Council of Northern Nevada, an organization of professional estate planners, last week in Carson City.

Medical building completed

Shaheen Beauchamp Builders LLC of Carson City said last week it has completed an 11,000-square-foot medical office clinic and ambulatory surgery center for Skin Cancer & Dermatology Institute.

The building is at 3950 G.S Richards Blvd., adjacent to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center Campus.

The architect on the project was HMC Architects of Reno.

Regional fiber optic links

American Fiber Systems has launched direct fiber-optic links between Reno, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Boise.

The company headquartered at Rochester, N.Y., said the links include Ethernet private line and SONET private line service.

Extension of USA Parkway

ready for paving work

The four-mile extension of the USA Parkway into the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center's third phase, Comstock Meadows, is ready to be paved.

The extension brings the road within four miles of the Lyon County line and will open development of the 5,000-acre Comstock Meadows area.

Because of difficult terrain and the need to install infrastructure such as water, sewer and natural gas lines, cost of the extension of USA Parkway was $1 million a mile.

Vista International moves

Vista International Operations, a company that provides information technologies solutions and works as an IT contractor for the U.S. General Services Administration, has moved to new quarters at 6490 South McCarran Blvd., Building F, No. 49.

The company, which employs 14, occupies 2,336 square feet. The office previously was in Sparks.

Envirolution Experience set

A team of recent grads has blended environmental concerns with business to produce The Envirolution Experience at Wingfield Park on June 29.

Executive Director Alex Gamboa hopes to turn his passion into a livelihood as he grows vendor sponsorship of the event. Co-founder and fellow Yale alumni Antuan Cannon hails from Truckee.

Companies like Solar Wind Works, Interpretive Gardens, Keith's Kars, Toyota and New2U Computers are scheduled to display.

About 1,500 attended last year's premiere.

Cricket offers wireless

Cricket Communications Inc. launched wireless Internet service in its Reno market last week.

Firestone recognizes D&D

D&D Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. of Sparks has been recognized by Firestone Building Products Company LLC for installation excellence. The awards are based on total square footage of roofing installed by the company and its ratings in inspections of installation techniques.
