Entrepreneur Week events scheduled in Reno, Carson

Entrepreneur Week events are scheduled in Reno and Carson City this week, beginning with a kickoff event at the Truckee Meadows Community College Dandini Campus on Monday evening.

The event is sponsored by Nevada's Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, a nonprofit that's aligned with the state's Commission on Economic Development.

The kickoff runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the student center atrium at the Red Mountain Building. Among the guests expected to appear are Ross Miller, Nevada's Secretary of State, and Dr. Milton Glick, president of the University of Nevada, Reno. Admission is $10 in advance (contact Emily Lowe at Emily@ncet.org) or $20 at the door.

The second annual Entrepreneur Expo, meanwhile, is expected to draw more than 500 entrepreneurs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

The free event will include more than 20 speakers on subjects such as financing a start-up and low-cost marketing strategies. About 75 companies and nonprofits that provide products and services to start-ups and young companies also have signed up as exhibitors.

"The Expo is designed to provide one-stop shopping for the resources and expertise anyone would need to start and grow a business here in the Silver State," said Dave Archer, chief executive officer of Nevada's Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology.

In Carson City, the Northern Nevada Development Authority will sponsor a business resource forum and workshops from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center. Workshops hosted by the Sierra Nevada Human Resources Association and exhibits by companies and nonprofits that provide services to businesses are planned. Luncheon speaker will be Lynnette Hahn of Dale Carnegie Systems on how to build sales through networking. RSVP for the lunch (cost is $30) by calling 883-4413.
