Five Star Moving expands operations

After less than a year in business, Five Star Moving and Storage expanded from about 5,000 square feet in Sparks to a 30,000-square-foot facility on Stillwell Road in north Reno.

"Business is 60 percent moving, 40 percent storage," says Don Hatt, owner and president. But since the housing slump, he relies increasingly on the local storage trade.

In addition to contracts with area hospitals and hotels, Five Star has sewn up storage contracts with the U.S. military. Pending is a contract to store personal effects for military personnel stationed at Fallon Naval Air Station.

The firm is an agent for Wheaton Worldwide Moving, a national moving and storage company. Hatt employed three upon opening, and now employs eight on site, plus drivers. Before starting Five Star Moving and Storage, Hatt drove for 19 years.

Paul Perkins, Dave Simonsen, Dan Oster and J. Michael Hoeck with the industrial team at NAI Alliance handled the leasing transaction for Five Star's first location and its subsequent expansion.
