Tanamera beats calendar to deliver Employers offices

An 80,000-square-foot office building that will be the home to Employers Holdings Inc. has been completed in the Reno Tahoe Tech Center.

The building just south of Renown South Meadows Medical Center was developed by Tanamera Development. Despite an aggressive construction schedule, it was delivered about three weeks early.

The lease by Employers Holdings, a provider of workers compensation coverage, is the largest single-tenant office lease negotiated in northern Nevada, said Tim Ruffin of Colliers International, who brokered the transaction.

The 200 employees who will work in the new building previously were housed in three separate buildings around the South Meadows area. They'll be vacating about 76,000 square feet after they move.

When the lease was signed last June 28, Tanamera faced the requirement of designing and constructing the building by the end of March.

It met the deadline, conducting a final walk-through with Employers executives on Feb. 28 and turning over the keys on March 5.

Initial plans called for completion of one floor at a time during March, with the final floor turned over to Employers at the end of the month.

Kreg Rowe, president of Tanamera Development, said construction of the three-story concrete tilt-up building at times was scheduled around the clock, seven days a week after permits were pulled in mid-August.

He also said the schedule put pressure on Tanamera's in-house design team, which expedited architectural, structural and space planning.

"Working with Employers was a wonderful experience," he said. "They were very organized, which was key in aiding us to finish ahead of schedule."
