Northrop awarded Fallon NAS option

Northrop Grumman, a major defense contractor, will continue to provide support services at Fallon Naval Air Station.

The Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center exercised an option on a five-year contract with Northrop Grumman to provide operations, maintenance and engineering support for the station's aviation warfare training program.

Northrop Grumman, with corporate headquarters in Los Angeles, has employed an average of 160 technicians and engineers at the Fallon NAS over the past four years to serve the Combined Tactical Training Range program, which instructs sailors and marines in aviation strike warfare.

The company is among the 15 largest employers in Churchill County.

The work at Fallon Naval Air Station is part of a contract that also includes U.S. Navy facilities in Arizona, California and North Carolina.

The contract, initiated in summer of 2005, is valued at $217 million over five years.
