Gaming firm leases space, expects to expand operations

Bally Technologies Inc. leased 41,000 square feet in South Meadows, and the company says it plans to continue expansion of its operations in Reno.

The Las Vegas-based company, which develops slots, video machines, and casino-management systems, signed a seven-year lease with Panattoni Development Co. for the space at 900 Sandhill Road. It currently occupies space at 950 Sandhill Road as well as locations at 300 Sierra Manor Drive and 4816 Longley Lane.

The Sandhill Road property previously was the home of GameTech International, which moved after it bought an office and production facility in South Meadows last year.

Bally employs 346 people in Reno, who work primarily in research and development, customer service, product management and technical support.

The company said the additional space will allow for future expansion and provide more workspace for current employees in a campus-style environment. It also said it plans to consolidate some departments and business functions into the new facility, although it hasn't worked out the details.

Gary Kapral, Bally's senior vice president of human resources, said the company is hiring in Reno, although it's keeping a close eye on head count while the economy remains weak.

"We have had a presence in Reno for more than 20 years, and have had very positive experiences with the community and the Reno employee base," Kapral said. "Reno offers a strong gaming talent pool and is very business friendly."
