Willow Springs expansion under way

Willow Springs Center has begun an expansion project that will add 40 beds to its 76-bed residential treatment facility in Reno.

Batten & Shaw, a Nashville construction company that specializes in medical facilities, is the general contractor. All subcontractors are local.

Stengel-Hill Architecture of Louisville, Ky., designed the expansion, which is scheduled for completion in July 2010.

Willow Springs Center at 690 Edison Way provides residential treatment for children and adolescents with emotional, psychiatric, behavioral and chemical dependency problems.

Jim Serratt, chief executive officer of the center owned by Psychiatric Solutions Inc. of Nashville, said the expansion will improve the center's ability to treat Nevada children and adolescents close to home.

The center opened in 1988.
