In her own words: Eugenia Larmore, Meridian Business Advisors

Northern Nevada Business Weekly: Tell us about Meridian Business Advisors.

Eugenia Larmore: MBA employs eight professionals with financial and economic backgrounds with experience in public accounting, local government finance, law enforcement, construction, retail, gaming and management fields. Our services include economic and fiscal impact analyses, gaming and market feasibility studies, litigation support and business valuation. Our clients include local and state governments, real estate developers, gaming operators, attorneys and business owners.

NNBW: What role do you play in the company?

Larmore: I am a director specializing in fiscal and economic impact analyses, gaming and market feasibility studies and economic loss analysis involved in litigation. My responsibilities involve working with clients and third parties, performing the analyses, creating reports and presenting findings in front of relevant audiences, such as City Council or County Commissioners. In addition to the fiscal and economic impact analyses, I am MBA's expert witness specializing in economic loss litigation, including wrongful death, wrongful termination, discrimination and injury cases. I work with clients, review relevant information, conduct appropriate analyses, create reports and testify regarding my findings in depositions and/or trial or arbitration.

NNBW: How did you get into this profession?

Larmore: I started with Meridian as a marketing intern in 2002, my last year of college. I did very little marketing, but worked with clients to create business plans and budgets, and had my first experience working with fiscal impact analyses. Over time I realized I enjoyed the economic and financial work much more than marketing. With my undergraduate degree in marketing and business, I felt I needed additional experience in finance and economics, so I went back to school for my MBA and received training and certifications in accounting and finance.

NNBW: If you could have had any other profession what would it have been? Why wasn't it your first choice?

Larmore: I started college wanting to work for a large international company, traveling the world. I soon realized that I didn't want to work for a large company and business travel is not exactly the same as travel for pleasure. When I started at Meridian, I realized I enjoyed doing consulting and analytical work I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

NNBW: What do you like to do when you're not working?

Larmore: I have two high-energy dogs, so my weekends are dedicated to getting them as tired as possible. My husband, Bob, and I do a lot of hiking, anywhere we can take the dogs. We love to travel. We enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving and golf. We spend much of our time at family gatherings. I love to read, it is my way to relax after a day at work. I am a charter member and a chair of a new Rotary club, a member of Junior League and other professional organizations.

NNBW: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why would you want it?

Larmore: I always wanted to be able to teleport; it would make travel so much quicker. Imagine going to Paris for lunch or visiting your friends in another state if you have a few free hours.

NNBW: What person, living or dead, would you most like to have dinner with, and why?

Larmore: My grandmother, who passed away when I was very young. I would love to get to know her, know the woman she was, hear what advice she could give me, and get a sense of history at that time.

NNBW: What's the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Larmore: I think the best advice was given to me by my boss when I was first starting out in consulting; she told me never to burn bridges, to treat everyone with respect. Reno is a small town and you never know how the person you ignored or hurt in the past may come to hurt you in the future.

NNBW: What five words would most people use to describe you?

Larmore: I did a quick survey of my fellow employees: intelligent, witty, considerate, trustworthy and personable.
