Jules Verne: The celebrated French writer Jules Verne will pass through Carson en route to Virginia City to visit the mines. He delights in making funny speeches to the crowds at the depots which surround his car at the depots.

All sorts: Judge Belnap is afflicted with rheumatism.

Governor Kinkead is being detained in San Francisco on business.

There will be a glass ball shooting at Treadway's Park.

Safeway: Clearing the ground for Joe Maffi's new building on the west side of Carson street is in progress. The building will be occupied by the Safeway Store under a lease of 10 years and will give the company its largest floor space in Nevada. Located on West Washington Street and near the main line track of the Virginia and Truckee Railway.

50 YEARS AGO

St. Peter's Episcopal Church will observe the foundation of Maundy Thursday evening with a parish potluck supper followed by celebration of Holy Community. Rev. Andrew Daughters, rector.

20 YEARS AGO

Photo caption: Heidi Laird, from the Wild Animal Infirmary for Nevada presents a pheasant to the first-grade class at Empire Elementary School. The bird was found starved and wandering by Carson City. Laird shows the class a green horned owl, a red-tailed hawk and a pheasant.

10 YEARS AGO

Dayton plans their 150th anniversary celebration. Dayton began as a sparsely populated mining camp and is now a thriving community of more than 8,500. The event is scheduled for two days May 26 and 27 and will pay special homage to the pioneer women.
