Fernley pedestrian killed Monday night

A Fernley man was killed Monday night after being struck by a truck as he walked on Farm District Road, an official said.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen, Christopher H. Capps, 23, of Fernley, was westbound in a 1993 Dodge Dakota on Farm District Road just before 9 p.m. when he "unexpectedly saw" Joshua M. Pascus, 30, of Fernley, in the center of the westbound lane.

Allen said although Capps applied the brakes to his pickup, the left front portion of the pickup struck Pascus.

Pascus was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno by ground ambulance and died later that evening at the hospital.

Capps had been wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Troopers are still trying to learn if Pascus was attempting to cross the street or if he was walking in the travel lane.

Farm District Road is two lanes with a posted speed limit of 35 mph. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be contributing factors in this accident.

Farm District Road was closed in both directions near the crash scene until just after 11 p.m.

The accident is being investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.).

Witnesses or anyone wishing to provide additional information, are encouraged to contact Trooper Eric Gallagher at (775) 689-4661 regarding case # 1104041530.
