Celebrate farmers markets this week

This is Farmers Market Week and Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell will be at the 3rd & Curry Streets Farmers Market today to proclaim Farmers Market Day in Carson City.

As a way of saying thanks to everyone all the vendors will be offering a special for the day. All the fruit and veggies are at their prime right now so come and take advantage of everything the market has to offer and don't forget to bring your knifes and garden tools that need sharpening.

Entertaining this week are Mike & Linda Badinger & Friends.

Greenhouse Garden Center features free seminars today and Aug. 28, plus an art show and sale in between.

• 9:30 a.m. today - David Ruf, owner of the center addresses "How To Know When To Reap What You Sow and When To Sow For Fall Crops." No reservations required.

• 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 20, the center hosts the 8th annual Art at the Greenhouse Art Show and Sale. A wide variety of art will be displayed and for sale, including oils, pastels, watercolors, glass, gourd art, jewelry, pottery, photography and folk art. Artists also will give demonstrations of their work.

• 1 p.m. Aug. 28 - Linda Marrone, manager of 3rd & Curry Street Farmers Market and Nevada Appeal food columnist, will give a free workshop, "All About Canning." Reservations are required; the workshop is free.
