Fed grant received for Tahoe bike paths

(AP) - The Tahoe Transportation District has received a $4.5 million federal grant that will be used for two bikeway projects at Lake Tahoe.

One project is to develop a 3.2 mile segment between Stateline and Round Hill on the south shore. The stretch is part of an eventual 43-mile route along U.S. 50.

The other project is along Highway 28 between Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park.

The Federal Highway Administration invited states to apply for federal grants in June and received more than 1,800 applications totaling nearly $13 billion, 30 times the available funding.

Boehner raises funds for Amodei in Reno

RENO (AP) - House Speaker John Boehner is in Reno to raise money for Nevada Republican congressional candidate Mark Amodei.

The Las Vegas Sun reports Boehner was speaking Friday at a private $5,000 and $10,000 per-head plate breakfast. No public appearances were planned.

Amodei faces Democrat Kate Marshall and two others in the Sept. 13 special election to fill Nevada's open 2nd Congressional House seat.

The seat became vacant when Republican Dean Heller was appointed to the Senate following the resignation of John Ensign.

The winner of next month's election will have to run again in 2012 to retain the seat.
