Minden air show is this weekend

The Minden-Tahoe Airport is hosting its inaugural Aviation Roundup this weekend to celebrate Douglas County's 150th anniversary and the life of Amanda Franklin, an air show performer who died this year.

The event is open to the public 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature aircraft demonstrations and exhibits, educational displays and children's activities. There also will be aerial fly-bys and radio-controlled aircraft demonstrations.

The Coast Guard will display a flotilla, a SWAT team will have a display, and police K-9 teams will put on demonstrations. The public may view a mockup of a new pressurized glider being built for a 100,000-foot altitude attempt.

The event is also a fly-in and convention for pilots, aviation enthusiasts, manufacturers and aircraft distributors.

Vendors include Harley-Davidson, Starbucks and Costco, and food and wine will be available.Ü
