Obituary: Ralph Mack Crow

A memorial service for Ralph Mack Crow will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Walton's Chapel of the Valley at 1281 N. Roop St., Carson City, followed by a celebration of life at his Carson City home. Beloved husband, partner, friend, mentor, stepdad and grandpa, he passed on to a higher plateau of peace and love into the arms of angels on Feb. 11.

He was a young lieutenant in WWII, readying his platoon to attack a Japanese island when President Truman dropped the bomb, thus ending the war that was fought and won by "the greatest generation." Lt. Crow returned home and entered law school at the University of Missouri.

He believed Nevada was a fascinating legal frontier and moved here in the 1960s. Because of his continuous legal battles defending the underdog against powerful corporations, high powered legal firms and even judges, he was often referred to as a Don Quixote, a rebel and a rabble rouser. If he believed a person was wrongfully abused or accused within the confines of the "justice" system, no amount of outside influence could dissuade him from doing battle. A person's ability to pay was never a consideration and fees were seldom billed or collected unless his power, heat or phone was disconnected.

During his legal career in Nevada he had two precedent cases - one on usury (Pease vs. Taylor) and another on adoption involving the heiress to the Kennecott Mining fortune.

He is survived by his spouse and partner Nannette Moffett; three stepchildren, Yvette Kaunismaki, Reese Moffett and Mignon Lagatta, all from the Reno-Sparks area and their seven children. Three children live out of state: Mike, Carolyn and Chris Crow.

Although his family and friends will miss him terribly, we know he has a very special place in heaven and received a loving, enthusiastic welcome upon his arrival.
