Jovana projects growth in Reno

A e-commerce startup company that markets European-style charms and charm bracelets expects to see rapid growth in employment at its fulfillment center in Reno.

Jovana Inc., headquartered at Irvine, Calif., launched its site on the Web as well as mobile platforms in early February.

The company initially employs about five people at the fulfillment center, but Chief Executive Officer Lynn Surber said as many as 25 more will be needed after a strong launch.

"We're ramping up, and we feel that we are going to be growing quite soon," Surber said.

Among those the company will be hiring, she said, are people with graphic design, customer service and fulfillment operations skills.

"Our phones have been ringing off the hook," Surber said. "We wanted to launch the Web site before Valentine's Day and guess what? It was the right thing to do. Our business has exploded beyond our estimated forecast."

The company handles most of its own design and manufacturing of the charms, charm bracelets and other jewelry that it retails.

It positions itself as a less-expensive alternative to brick-and-mortar retailers of European-style charms.
