Work starts on Lowe's store at Legends

North Carolina-based Lowe's plans to open its third store in the Reno-Sparks area at Legends at Sparks Marina.

Q&D Construction has begun earthwork at the site, and construction is scheduled to begin next month, a company spokesperson says. The 103,000-square-foot store with 26,000-square-foot garden center is expected to be open in January.

Lowe's says it will hire 125 to 150 people at the new store, which sits on the east side of the Legends site at Sparks Boulevard and Interstate 80. Job applicants should visit www.lowes.com/careers to apply for positions, says Jaclyn Pardini, Lowe's public relations coordinator. Stores of similar size typically represent an investment of $16.5 million, Pardini says.

The new site will feature a different layout and merchandising than the Lowe's on Kietzke Lane in Reno or Oddie Boulevard in Sparks, she adds. Those stores were retrofitted, whereas new stores offer more options to meet the company's current prototype.
