Chamber Singers to perform concert

The Carson Chamber Singers directed by Judy Monson will present their Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. April 30 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St., Carson City.

The varied program includes serious and light-hearted works. The group will be accompanied by Michael Langham on piano and harp, and Carol Grenier on flute.

Admission is $16.50 for general admission; $13.50 for seniors, students, and Carson City Symphony Association members; and free for ages 16 and younger. Tickets are available in advance at the Brewery Arts Center box office, online at breweryarts.org, and at the door.

The concert is funded in part by grants from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency; the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency; and the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.

WNC offers motorcycle safety courses

Western Nevada College Carson City is offering 11 sections of motorcycle safety courses during April and May for both beginners and experienced riders. The non-credit courses are hands-on and cover a range of skills.

Basic Rider Course, CMSV 1000C, meets 6-10 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Cost: $100. Session dates: April 1-3; April 8-10; April 15-17; April 29-May 1; May 6-8; May 13-15; May 20-22.

Experienced Rider Course, CMSV 1100C, meets 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Saturdays. Cost: $60. Session dates: April 16, June 4, July 30 and Sept. 10.

Upon successful completion, students will receive an MSF completion card to take to Nevada Division of Motor Vehicles to obtain a Class M motorcycle endorsement.

Spring book sale slated at library

Friends of the Carson City Library are hosting a spring book sale to kick off National Library Week. The sale will take place from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. April 8; 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. April 9 in the auditorium at the library.

Thousands of fiction and nonfiction books will be available at bargain prices as well as children's books, videos, CDs and records. The Carson City Library is located at 900 North Roop St. For more information, call 882-5458.

Observatory offers weekend programs

Jack C. Davis Observatory's Messier Marathon has been re-scheduled to Friday evening.

The weather forecast for this first weekend in April shows that Friday evening will have a better sky for observations for the all-night period of 6:30 p.m. Friday evening until Saturday morning at 7 a.m.

The lecture, "The Messier Marathon," is at 7 p.m.

Doors open for the Star Party, "Quest for Alien Worlds," at 6:30 p.m.

This slide-show lecture addresses the scientific community's search for planets orbiting distant stars. The presentation includes space images, and an explanation of the progress that has been made in the search for alien worlds.
